I thought I would share with you guys something that affected one of my sensory nervous system, my ears and what I had to have done to get the hearing back in it.
It all started about a month ago honestly it feels so long ago. So, I woke up one day and I couldn’t hear out my left ear and I thought to myself hmmm I’m sure it would return because the morning of the day before the same thing had happened but by the time it was lunch I could hear out of it but the second day that it happened it hadn't returned by lunch like it had before and I honestly remember thinking I’m going to struggle at work hearing people as I work at tills in retail.
I felt like I was trapped out of the world as I couldn't hear properly and like I was looking in with only a bit of sound. And if I’m honest all sorts of things went through my mind as to why I couldn’t hear properly like have I gone deaf in that ear, as in my family we have a gene called waardenburg syndrome which affects your hearing and my twin sister Kloe has it and as a result she wears hearing aids which she has embraced and not let it stop her, enough about my brilliant sister that’s for another post.
I felt like I was trapped out of the world
My mum said it could be waardenburg syndrome like my twin sister Kloe has or some blocked wax so we put olive oil in it everyday until we got an appointment at the doctors and when we went to see the doctor she said that it was a case of blocked wax and that it was soft enough to be irrigated out so I had to go back a week later to have the treatment done and I felt pretty nervous as I didn’t know what to expect.
The nurse that I saw was really nice and explained what was going to happen so there’s this little machine that you fill with luke warm water and then they put this jet tip into your ear and the water helps to flush out the wax in your ear. The jet tip looks quite long and I was a bit worried, like that looks too big to go in my ear but only a small bit of it goes in your ear, thank god.
I had to go back for a second appointment as the first time I went none of the wax would come out so I put olive oil in my ear every day which softens the wax then after a week of doing this I went back and had it irrigated for a second time and all wax came out and I couldn’t believe how much was in there, I was very surprised and having the hearing back in that ear felt so weird after having none for a while. I noticed the difference immediately and it felt like people were shouting.
I felt pretty nervous as I didn’t know what to expect.
Having your ear irrigated doesn’t hurt and the best way I can describe it how it feels is like when you wash your hair and the water goes in and it feels bubbly. I know this may sound strange but the sound of the water in my ear sounded like those big drills people use when they drill through concrete.
I hope I have explained this in the best way and that this post wasn’t too long.
Have you ever had a blocked ear and if so how did you overcome it? Let me know in the comments below.
All my love
